Instructor Licence
A member who has met the qualifications as set out in the policies of the Association and has successfully passed the provincial examination and paid the required fees.
Certified Instructors will be classified as Certified Instructor Level I or Certified Instructor Level II.
  • Certified Instructor Level II is an Instructor who has received a minimum of 20 hours of education pertaining to the occupation of cosmetology and has submitted proof of said upgrading to the association and to the satisfaction of the Examining & Licensing Committee. 20 hours must be submitted annually or will be reinstated as a certified Instructor Level I.
  • Certified Instructor Level II is an Instructor who has received a minimum of 20 hours of education pertaining to the occupation of cosmetology and has submitted proof of said upgrading to the association and to the satisfaction of the Examining & Licensing Committee. 20 hours must be submitted annually or will be reinstated as a certified Instructor Level I.

Master Cosmetologist
20 hours must be submitted yearly with the renewal fees.

Salon Proprietor 
Every person who owns or operates a salon must hold a valid salon permit, including salons located in a private residence. The permit must be displayed in full view of the public.

Employee Status 
Salon owners are asked to fill out the following form Employee Status Update Form. 

THIS APPLIES EVEN IF YOU HAVE NO EMPLOYEES OR IF THE COSMETOLOGISTS OR OTHER EMPLOYEES ARE RENTING SPACE.


Mobile Business
Cosmetologists wishing to offer services outside of the cosmetology salon must obtain a mobile license and abide by the guidelines and policies as set by the Association and must satisfy any additional requirements set out in the by-laws and policies.

Out of Province Applicants
In order for consideration of licensing, the application must be completed, with supporting documents and returned to the CANB, with the $110.00 non-refundable application fee. The revision process could take up to 30 days; however, submitting an incomplete application could result in additional delays. For better service, an appointment is required to meet with a CANB staff. 

The CANB does not accept ONLINE training, please see section 7.2 and 19.2 in our Act.
